Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

JustOwed (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Service at justowed.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the Service.

The Service is intended for users in the United States only.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

Information you provide directly:

  • name and email address;
  • employer or client name, wage or payment claim details, and related case information;
  • uploaded documents, images, and communications;
  • your mailing address, the recipient’s mailing address, and related mailing details;
  • payment-related information processed through our payment provider.

Information collected automatically:

  • device and browser information;
  • IP address;
  • usage and activity data;
  • session and log data.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • provide and operate the Service;
  • organize and display uploaded documents;
  • extract and confirm factual information from uploaded materials;
  • prepare notices for your review;
  • process payments;
  • arrange mailing and delivery tracking;
  • provide downloadable case files;
  • communicate with you about your account or case;
  • maintain security and prevent abuse; and
  • comply with legal obligations.

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information with third-party service providers only as necessary to operate the Service. The named subprocessors we currently rely on include:

  • Stripe — payment processing. Payment card details are transmitted directly to Stripe and are not stored on JustOwed servers.
  • LetterStream — certified mail printing and delivery. Your name, sender address, recipient address, and the text of your letter are transmitted to LetterStream to fulfill mailing orders you approve.
  • Resend — transactional email delivery (account notifications, delivery status updates).
  • Anthropic— AI-assisted parsing of uploaded documents and response content. The content of responses you upload and the bytes of files you upload are transmitted to Anthropic for parsing and extraction. Anthropic’s use of this data is governed by its API data usage policies.
  • Supabase — database hosting and storage of your account data, case information, and uploaded files.
  • Vercel — application hosting and content delivery.

We may also disclose information:

  • when required by law;
  • to protect our rights or the safety of users or others; or
  • with your consent.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Service, maintain sessions, improve functionality, and understand usage. You can manage cookies through your browser settings, although some parts of the Service may not function properly without essential cookies.

6. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain records, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, comply with legal obligations, and enforce our policies. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and the purpose for which it was collected.

When you delete your account, payment and charge records held by our payment processor (Stripe) are retained by Stripe for legal and accounting compliance. We may also retain limited internal logs in de-identified form for security and record-keeping.

7. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

  • access personal information we hold about you;
  • request correction of inaccurate information;
  • request deletion of your information;
  • request portability of certain information; and
  • opt out of certain communications.

You can permanently delete your account and associated data yourself at any time from Account settings (Delete account). This immediately and irreversibly removes your cases, claim details, uploaded files, generated letters, and login. Certain records are retained as described in “Data Retention” above.

Note: deleting an individual case archives it (it can be restored by contacting support), whereas deleting your account permanently erases your data.

If you would like to make a privacy request, contact: support@justowed.com

9. California Notice

If you are a California resident, you may have additional privacy rights under applicable California law, including rights related to access, correction, deletion, and portability. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not intended for individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we may notify users by email or by posting a notice on the Service. Continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
